Taipei 101

Xiangshan

Jiufen

Wulai

Who Is Eligible?

  • Limited to foreign visitors holding Tourist Visa valid for 6 months or less, or Visa-Free Tourists valid 90 days or less in Taiwan.
  • Passengers purchasing THSR Pass are required to present the passports upon exchanging the Pass, selecting seats, and boarding the train. Only the original copy of the PASS is valid; any photocopying, alteration, forging or damage that is beyond recognition will be deemed invalid.
  • Children over the age of 6 years and under 12 years old may purchase the Children's Pass.

How Long Is the Pass Valid?

  • "3-Day Pass" - The first day of the effective boarding period starts on any day within 28 days after the pass is exchanged, and the Pass is valid for 3 consecutive days. Once the first day is selected, the valid period cannot be changed.
  • "Flexible 2-Day Pass" - The first day of the effective boarding period starts on any day within 28 days after the pass is exchanged. The second day of the effective boarding period should be within 7 days after the first specified day. Once the first boarding day is selected, the valid period cannot be changed.
  • "5-Day Standard Joint Pass" - An effective boarding period needs to be specified for the Pass at THSR ticket windows. Once the boarding period is specified, it cannot be changed.
    • The first day of the effective boarding period starts on any day within 28 days after the pass is exchanged.
    • The effective boarding period for Taiwan Railway is 5 consecutive days starting from the first date (inclusive) of boarding the train.
    • The effective boarding period for Taiwan High Speed Rail is any 2 days within the 5 days after the first date (inclusive) of boarding the train.
  • "5-Day Express Joint Pass" - An effective boarding period needs to be specified for the Pass at THSR ticket windows. Once the boarding period is specified, it cannot be changed.
    • The first day of the effective boarding period starts on any day within 28 days after the pass is exchanged.
    • The effective boarding period for Taiwan Railway is 5 consecutive days starting from the first date (inclusive) of boarding the train.
    • The effective boarding period for the Taiwan High Speed Rail is any 2 days within 5 days after the first date (inclusive) of boarding the train.
  • The validity of one full day starts at 00:00 and ends at 23:59. For example, if a passenger purchases a "5-Day Standard Joint Pass" and decides to specify January 1, 2013 as the first boarding day, then the effective boarding period for Taiwan Railway starts at 00:00 on January 1, 2013 and ends at 23:59 on January 5, 2013, and the effective boarding period for the Taiwan High Speed Rail is any 2 days within the aforementioned 5 days.

How to Use the Pass

  • Passengers who purchase the Pass through an overseas travel agency or the THSR Website will receive an exchange voucher that may only be used in exchange for the THSR Pass or Joint Pass, but cannot be used to board directly.
  • The Pass must be exchanged within 90 days, including the date of payment, at ticket windows; the Pass is applicable from the next day of the purchase.
  • The Joint Pass can be exchanged at ticket windows of Taiwan Railway or Taiwan High Speed Rail. (Only designated ticket windows at Taiwan Railway stations can be used to exchange the pass.)
  • When exchanging the Pass, please show the voucher and your passport. If you are unable to present your passport, or if the information on your passport does not match the information on the voucher, Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railway reserve the right to refuse the exchange.
  • When exchanging the Pass, you must select an effective boarding period at the same time. Once that decision is made, the effective boarding period cannot be changed.
  • When using the Taiwan High Speed Rail Pass or Joint Pass, you must enter the platform via the manned gate, so please bring your passport to be checked upon entry and exit. If you enter on a day that is not within the effective boarding period, if you cannot present your passport, or if the information on your passport does not match the information on the pass, you will not be allowed to board the train. Those who have already boarded the train but have any of the aforementioned situations will be required to buy an additional ticket.

Trains That Accept the Pass

  • Passengers may travel in non-reserved cars with this PASS; the passengers need to take a reserved standard seat, please reserve in advance at the THSR ticket window at no additional charge, but please note the following rules:
    • Passengers must bring the THSR Pass and your passport to the ticket windows to make a reservation. Online or telephone reservations will not be accepted.
    • Reservations cannot be made for the Business Class Car.
    • Seat availability is not guaranteed during rush hours or national holidays.
    • When using the THSR Pass to sit in the Reserved Standard Car, please adhere to the seat information printed on your pass. If you need to modify your itinerary, please proceed to the Taiwan High Speed Rail ticket window 30 minutes before the train departs.
  • Passengers with a "5-Day Standard Joint Pass" can take Taiwan Railway and Taiwan High Speed Rail.
    • Taiwan High Speed Rail
      • The Pass is not applicable for the Business Class Car.
      • The Pass is valid for travel in non-reserved cars. Should the passengers need to take a reserved seat, please reserve in advance at the THSR ticket windows (Online or telephone reservations will not be accepted). This service is free of charge. If you need to modify your itinerary, please proceed to the Taiwan High Speed Rail ticket window 30 minutes before the train departs.
    • Taiwan Railway (Stations for exchanging the Pass include Songshan Station, Taipei Station, Taoyuan Station, Taichung Station, Tainan Station, and Kaohsiung Station.)
      • The Pass is not applicable for Tze-Chiang Limited Express, Taroko Express, Puyuma Express, tour trains, cruise trains, and other trains designated by Taiwan Railway.
      • Passengers may take any empty seats on the Chu-Kuang Express and Fu-Hsing Semi Express, but reserved seat service is not available.
    • Seat availability for Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railway is not guaranteed during rush hours or national holidays.
  • Passengers with a "5-Day Express Joint Pass" can take Taiwan Railway and Taiwan High Speed Rail.
    • Taiwan High Speed Rail
      • The Pass is not applicable for the Business Class Car.
      • The Pass is valid for travel in non-reserved cars. Should the passengers need to take a reserved seat, please reserve in advance at the THSR ticket window (Online or telephone reservations will not be accepted). This service is free of charge. If you need to modify your itinerary, please proceed to the Taiwan High Speed Rail ticket window 30 minutes before the train departs.
    • Taiwan Railway (Stations for exchanging the Pass include Songshan Station, Taipei Station, Taoyuan Station, Taichung Station, Tainan Station, and Kaohsiung Station.)
      • The Pass is not applicable for tour trains, cruise trains, and other trains designated by Taiwan Railway. Seats must be available in order to travel on Taroko Express or Puyuma Express
    • Seat availability for Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railway is not guaranteed during rush hours or national holidays.

Other Rules

  • Once you exchange the "Taiwan High Speed Rail Pass or Joint Pass" with the voucher, the Pass cannot be refunded. Furthermore, should the Pass be lost, damaged or stolen either before or after their travels, no reissuance, application for loss or refund will be accepted.
  • In the event of train delays, interruption of service, cancellation of trains, etc., Taiwan High Speed Rail will not provide a refund or extend the effective boarding period.
  • Only the original "Taiwan High Speed Rail Pass or Joint Pass" shall be valid. A photocopied, altered, or damaged Pass will be invalid.
  • Refund is only available if the voucher has not been used and is within the valid period. Refund process can only be handled from the original issuing office and a 10% fee will be applied to each refund.
  • A THSR Children Pass can only be used by children over the age of 6 years old and under 12 years old. When exchanging a Children Pass, the child¡¦s passport must be provided to confirm their eligibility. If children are found to not be eligible, their Children Pass cannot be exchanged.
  • If you purchase the Pass from the Taiwan High Speed Rail website, you can obtain the invoice by clicking "Print INVOICE" after making the payment (for computer version only). If you purchase the Pass through a travel agency, please contact the travel agency to obtain the voucher or invoice. (The proof of ticket purchase will not be provided if the Pass is changed for a reserved seat.)
